Yeah, but due to the delays caused by the strike, they'd lost, basically, all of the supporting actors from S1.  That's why John's high school friend, the other girl he was crushing on (the non-Terminator one), and, well, almost everything that had been set up in S1 was not present in S2.

No.  At least, not in the case of Buffy.  The movie was… decent enough, I guess, but the television show, in its entirety, kills it.
