I wish I could dislike this type of non-comment even once.

Everything about this episode was stupid. Not only the worst finale Dexter ever had. One of the worst episodes, ever. Neither the plot nor the characters made sense. It was an obvious vehicle to get Deb to shoot LaGuerta. You realize all that. You grade it C-, appropriately (maybe mercifully). But then you say it was

Yeah, so was I. The bit with the donuts definitely happened on the show. But I think they cut away from it after Dexter offered donuts to Doakes. Or before that. Or…my mind is playing tricks on me.

Even I know there needs to be a firing key and I am far-removed from being a sub commander. He hasn't seen any sub movies, either?

The key actually being in place and ready to be turned might be a little more threatening, don't you think?

As I feel your comment goes beyond snark: The kidnapping sets up next week's plot and makes an appropriate amount of sense (at least I saw it coming, so I guess my tv-viewing mind is able to more than justify it). It was not supposed to underline this episode with personal tragedy that you are sure to care for,

There are several storylines on this (and any other) show. It fits perfectly well. But I also don't care for that subplot too much.
