Yeah, I'm a sucker for subverting tropes. While it's sometimes a bit too meta, this show doesn't just subvert tropes, it destroys them. It also combines them in intelligent ways.

Yes, that's the problem. This being on network television I found it hard to believe there wouldn't be a conspiracy. And that's disappointing. But aside from the potential drugging there was no clue in the pilot and I am not so sure the creator intended for it to have a conspiracy angle.
