Is that not just because Blu-Rays have yet to become as popular as DVD due to the inflated prices?  At least there are fewer regions for Blu-Ray, and I've noticed several of the ones I've bought cover all of them anyway.

I suppose it comes down to how you react to Ryan Reynolds.  Personally, I like him, so that alone puts it ahead of Thor with its bland leading man, whoever he was.  Also, the CGI for the big bad in Green Lantern is better than anything in Thor.

The reason Rage has such a large footprint is the 'Megatexture' technology that it uses rather than the actual size of the environment or amount of actual content.
