Very true.  That scene was both a missed opportunity for solid laughs (Julia Louis-Dreyfus surrounded by meaty hulking athletes is a great setup) as well as a bit destructive to the character.  I found myself wondering how it's possible that someone who has a successful career in politics can't make small talk for a

Agreed!  I found last week's episode really quite dazzling.  There was a rhythm and sleekness found in only the best sitcoms.

Yeah, that is a shame.  Only a handful more showed up for Royal Tenenbaums and that was fantastic, easily my favorite of his works and one of my favorite movies of all time.  It's a film that feels almost surrealistic while succeeding to render vivid and likeable characters.  It feels both like a major opus and a very

Oh don't be an ass.  That's not what I meant and you know it.  I'm talking about the fact that writing children as miniature adults (implausibly neurotic adults, at that) is a very stupid thing to do.

This is a very good point.  Anderson's last few films have been let downs, largely because of everything that is happening outside of his distinctive aesthetic.

Yeah, I hear you.  Even though the word predates internet moronica, it's strongly associated in my mind with people who seem to think that knowing the word "showrunner" implies they understand how television production works.

Indeed, Hiroshi's plan was pretty dumb.  While I admire your optimism (and wish I could share it), sometimes a plot hole is just a plot hole.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.  I've been slow to get into the show, mostly because I missed the bandwagon and now the fans are so hysterical that's it's almost a turn off.

@intangible_fancy:disqus Exactly my point.  While I doubt NBC execs give a shit about Chevy Chase, they definitely care about the network being embarrassed.  TV networks are very, very conservative places, highly intolerant of immature or unprofessional antics.  (Nailing your assistant is fine, though.)
