I checked this out on Hulu, and though I dug some of it, I wasn't totally feeling it. Whitford and Åkerman have great chemistry and Marcia Gay Harden was spot on, but otherwise I thought there were some major flaws.

Oh, alright, I completely misread this.
The man falling into lava is so beautifully weird. I can imagine how someone comes up with the frozen penguin, but I cannot imagine the thought process behind "man sits on top of a house as it floats down a river of lava, passes a ringing pay phone that is a few inches taller than the house, etc."
