I'm so glad you mentioned the Cinderella theme: from the campaign pitch, to Don's dream sequence which ended with a missing shoe, to Sally and her mean step-(grand)mother, to Joan realizing that her man is no Prince Charming…I feel like there were a few other examples that I'm forgetting now.

I absolutely think that horror films reflect the times we're living through.  And they exorcize general frustration represented by distrust of government, feelings of disempowerment, fear of pandemic disaster and loss of identity.
