What about Gangs of New York

Unfortunately, lesser Pixar is Cars 2, and that's about as average as a movie gets. But I agree with the sentiment.

Nah, Laika has really killed it with their last two movies. I reckon this one is worth a watch at least.

I think the kid's death worked well for the plot in at least two ways, one being that it was the perfect capstone to a tense scene where the whole question was "will they be able to pull off this heist?" and the answer was "yes" but the viewer doesn't care anymore because a kid is dead, and that's sort of a summation…
