Absolutely.  And hey, my dissertation involves what many would call a trivial sociohistorical issue, but which has had a tremendous influence on western culture and ideologies in ways few people realize.  Unfortunately, I've become bored as fuck by it, but not because it's trivial!  (It's because I hate academia.)

@Dr_John_Zoidberg:disqus Yeah—I gotta say, your attempts to end the conversations here are kind of condescending, too.  I mean, no doubt that this entire subject is turning into this weird, confusing, self-reflexive burrito of irony, but another ironic thing is for you to lament how "big strong men" are trying to

And that's bizarre as hell, too.  There are so many famous dramedies and subtle comedies; was there a lot of confusion over, say, The Graduate, Annie Hall, or Punch-Drunk Love?  Obviously, I'm not saying Girls is a classic on par with those films, but its comic style is similar.  It feels like a rather familiar mode

You bring up a lot of good points.  What struck me as a new viewer, though, is that I kept hearing that these characters are supposed to be terrible and was prepared to dislike them intensely.  And I don't, not at all.  (Okay, that's a lie: I think I might hate Marnie.  A little.)   I find Hannah extremely likeable,

I just managed to see all the episodes today, and I'm more bewildered than ever by the vitriol it's received.  I really, really like the show.  At the same time, as you say, it's not exactly one of the greatest shows ever made; it's a pretty damn light comedy.  It does deal with interesting issues and pathos every now

It was "Then He Kissed Me"!  I love that song.

I usually really like TLo's recaps, but they've been driving me batshit this season by spending the first couple of paragraphs of every recap bemoaning the "too obvious!" nature of the themes. That criticism  pisses me off in general; I'd think the fact that each episode spurs so much discussion and debate suggests

Seems most people didn't like Mystery Date, but it was one of my favorites.  What was so bad about it?  I loved the horror-movie thematic unity, liked seeing that Don was both aware of and worried about his womanizing tendencies, found the Peggy-Dawn story interesting for showing some of Peggy's less-than-endearing

Yeah, and I mentioned last week, I think, that there were so many watershed moments in season 3: JFK, but also Lane being introduced, Guy getting his foot cut off, Sal getting fired, Betty finding out about Dick Whitman, Betty and Don finally breaking up, and of course the founding of SCDP.  How could anybody not like

Oh, I saw it as funny as hell, but I'm not sure Peggy did; she seemed grossed out.  But it didn't seem to really bother her, either.  I thought the point was simply that business travel isn't the pure delight Peggy might have thought it'd be, that going to Richmond to tour a tobacco plant is no trip to Paris, but it

Holy shit that site is awful.  Its rule about "no talking about the boards on the boards" actually encourages such awfulness; because nobody can call out other posters for being assholes or idiots, assholes and idiots converge there.  Against my better judgment, I went there last night, too, and it was as I expected:
