I wish one of the main reasons for Batista's retirement was the increasingly small amount of satisfaction afforded to him as a result of Dexter's antics.  So many criminals have, as far as he knows, gotten away and vanished, it must be incredibly disheartening.

Definitely some suspension of disbelief required, but it's not completely ridiculous.  All the stuff they were wearing is stuff you can easily order online (even ballistic helmets and vests) without any legal barriers at all.  As for their weapons, this is America, its really easy to get 5.56mm weapons like the ones…

There's also the third possibility, that Brody was asked to escort the tailor to the safe house in an attempt to kill them both.  Remember the "safe house" the couple was instructed to go to in season 1?  I think Nazir does consider Brody compromised and wanted to wash his hands of him.

He gave up Roya.  She was pretty much the only thing he could give up and he did.  While I don't think Brody has fully turned against nazir, that's still pretty significant.
