Pendleton!
I was quite happy to see Austin Pendleton, of Short Circuit and The Muppet Movie fame, as Sam's psychiatrist.

Dharma losties
I love the idea that Sawyer and the gang have been working for Dharma for three years. And skipping ahead makes the Sawyer-Juliet romance less implausible… They had three whole years to fall in love!
That's my position too… It's not great, but it has potential and the cast is good. I've been a regular viewer of weaker shows in the past… Tru Calling finally started to get good about five episodes before it got canceled.
The banjo number was the highlight of the show! I'd rather watch Steve Martin play banjo for an hour and a half than watch any of those sketches. I'd rather watch Steve Martin play banjo for an hour and a half than listen to Jason Mraz. And I'd rather watch Steve Martin play banjo for any length of time than watch…
Angels & Monsters
That question about the book just gave me a case of SIRE*. I read Peter's Angel/The Monster's Room when I was in 4th grade or so… I seem to remember the author sneaking in some kind of religious message. I bet some local libraries would still have a copy, and I just might look for it.
Quack Pack was a mid-90s series starring Donald, Daisy, and the nephews. The dumb thing about it was that they made the nephews preteens. But Jose and Panchito don't have any relatives, so that wouldn't be a problem.
Es muy trippy
"Casually psychedelic" is accurate. The last half hour of Three Caballeros looks like the animators finished the movie by staying awake for a week, never rejecting a single idea, just throwing it all into the film.
Snuggles: I couldn't believe it when I saw that Planet of the Apes DVD cover. What a terrible, terrible idea.
Kick the map!
I always thought it was odd that Mike claims to have "kicked" the map into the river. Why didn't he drop it in the river, or throw it in the river? No, he "kicked" it, and he proceeds to say it over and over again.
Gags
Here's some incredibly fascinating trivia: "Gags Beasley" is also Fozzie Bear's joke writer. I don't think he's ever been seen onscreen in a Muppet thing, but Fozzie mentions him every once in a while… presumably that was one of Burns' contributions to The Muppet Show mythos.
The Storyteller
For anyone who wants to relive more Henson-related childhood trauma, there's lots of info on The Storyteller over at Muppet Wiki:

Do you have any spare Mr. Potato Head pieces lying around? I think a "Mr. Nutriloafhead" would be delightful, just delightful.
