Good call on DC and Marvel. I can't begin to imagine the pop-culture landscape, or my childhood, without them.

His Libertarian values make him a weirdo? I always thought his views were pretty sensible, at least compared to most Libertarians I know.

"There are not too many American art forms that are original. Most are derived from European art forms. Other than the western and jazz or blues, that's all that's really original." —- Clint Eastwood

Frank Zappa
I take tremendous pride in the fact that our foremost rock/jazz/doo-wop/avant-garde composer is a true, full-blooded American freak.

I'd love to see Rorschach in that pink elephant scene.

Met Tom…
SSSC did a show at my college a few months back, as part of a charity show that Tom put together. Tom was a super nice guy. Their music wasn't as great as I wanted, but their performance was fucking awesome.

Apparently the studio didn't want Bruce because he wasn't a big enough star.

He clearly did *not* win the pink elephant.

There's definitely been a "don't speak ill of the dead" vibe in the media since his death. Even when they bring up the controversy of his last decade, they just shrug it off as him being a very troubled person, possibly with lots of enablers around him. While I'd say that's certainly true, it's a complete about-face

They are prog influenced by metal, not really metal by trade. Plus, journalists have the bad habit of lumping them in with nu-metal acts, so I'd rather they be left off the list then have them in that ghetto.

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
First video I vividly remember from my childhood. It's fucking disturbing when you're 8 years old, but the song was just soooo good. Began my love affair with rock music.

Morricone's score of TGTB&TU is the greatest ever. "The Trio" is so fucking perfect it hurts. Not to mention the main theme and "The Ecstasy of Gold."

There's a quick nod to Elfman's Batman score in The Dark Knight. When I saw TDK, my friend (a Film Scoring major at our music college) and I both cheered when we heard that.

It's funny, I went to a music college and did a lot of film stuff, had a bunch of friends who majored in Film Scoring. Apparently, a lot of the older Film Scoring dept faculty absolutely hated that score. I can't imagine why. It fits the tone of the film so perfectly, and it's incredibly effective. I just thought

Ooo, good call. Lawrence of Arabia's score is fucking classic. Probably one of the 10 most iconic ever.

His scores for the Back To The Future movies are some of the worst I've ever heard. It's the same fucking theme, over and over and over again. It almost never changes. I watched all three with a bunch of friends of mine. Anytime the main theme would pop up (which was about once a minute) we'd all bust out

Yes yes YES! Say what you will about The Fountain, the score is fucking great.

Punch Drunk Love has one of my favorite scores ever, simply for that love theme. Burwell has a lot of great scores. I think I was one of the few people who thought his score for Burn After Reading totally made the movie. In addition to the rest of his fantastic work with the Coen Bros. Also his score for In Bruges
