I believe the plan is to have them be complementary. The odd issues in the present are about Diana fighting back against the gods for mucking with her memories, and feature Steve Trevor (and Etta Candy) in a sub-plot that will lead him to becoming a supporting character. The even issues are explicating the "official"

Yeah, like I said upthread, there's nothing morally wrong with using the Watchmen characters. As a creative choice, though, I find it hugely suspect.

Huh.

DC agreed to let the rights go to Moore and Gibbons if the book ever went out of print (i.e. it was no longer profitable to keep printing it). Moore is the "victim" of a bad business decision, and while he has not personally benefited from it, a large number of creators since then have, thanks to their example.

They flirted excessively, and there was a "dream sequence/what-if" section where they dated, but even Kelly never pulled the trigger on it. I have to say, though, Cris Cross draws a FANTASTIC Diana.

The various Viking sagas are full of great names. Svein Forkbeard, Thorir Goat-Thigh, Eyjolf the Beshitten, Thorbjorg Ship-Breast, Thorolf Sledgehammer, Gunnlaug Serpent-Tongue, Halfdan The Open-Handed-But-Stingy-With-Meat, and so many more.

Killfuck Soulshitter.

Yeah, I think DC is trying to make up for some previously bad decisions. Stuff they did even before Nu52.

I am totally jelly, bro.

Yeah, aside from my personal feelings about Alan Moore, I agree with you there. There's no need to add the Watchmen characters to the DCU. They already have a Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, Nightshade, and Peacemaker. They don't need Johnny Ersatz versions of them just because of Moore's name and cachet.

Ending, Peter? Nothing ever has an ending.

Yeah, it's a fine line to straddle. Basically, the people in charge of DC are aware of the shit they get for rebooting their universe so often, and they want to avoid the heat of doing so only five years after the last reboot. So they're trying to maintain the Nu52 continuity while letting all the good stuff (showing

All I want from superheroes is "meat and potatoes." I don't need events. I don't need a life-changing adventure every issue. I don't need to contemplate what makes Batman Batman every month. I just want to see superheroes doing superheroics - saving people, fighting bad guys, making wry comments.

Like most of Jim Lee's ideas (i.e. his costume designs) adding the Wildstorm characters to the DCU was a terrible idea.

I think Alan Moore slipped off his high horse the moment he had Voldemort sexually assault Mina Harker. Unless someone cares to correct me, I highly doubt Moore called up J.K Rowling and got her permission to do that.

As a long-time DC fan who was left out in the cold by the Nu52, I am enjoying Rebirth a lot more than I thought I would. I'm also buying a Deathstroke book, which I never in my life thought I would do. So there's that.

The easy walkaround is that not all panthers are black. Also that the name was also embraced by a group of radical African Americans. It may be racially charged if you squint, but in a better way than "Black Lightning" or "Black Goliath" are.

The Stern/Byrne run on Cap is stone cold goodness.

It bothers me sometimes that we depend upon Roman authors so often to explain Greek religion and myth. Even Ovid was a bloody Latin.

I hope they at least animate Black Lightning's lightning as black in color, like in the cartoon Young Justice. Otherwise… why exactly they calling him Black Lightning in this day and age?
