The cheesy error message looked, to me, like an OS-level lockdown instead of just network disconnect. Either way it was a stupid moment just for Sorkin to go "Look how much better Neal is than these guys."
I heard the hack was simple because Sony didn't bother to salt their passwords, which is very basic from a security standpoint. I have trouble feeling sympathy towards major corporations that don't treat their IT staff and systems seriously.
This is a stupid complaint that falls into the realm of "TV hacker magic" but I have to say it.
Thanks for responding. While I don't agree with your conclusions on some topics, I definitely think your criticism of the show is fair. The show picks up and drops off threads at odd places, and you're right that the plotting isn't as tight as other highly-acclaimed shows.
