First off, you're right about Russell. I actually grew up in the town that happened in, it was in the 80's, and yeah, it's incredibly embarrassing. Your other point is kind of silly. I'm pretty sure the reason they signed Larry Bird and Kevin McHale is because they're really really good at basketball, not because they

We clearly have different definitions of 'slapped on the wrist'. They lost a first round draft pick for taping from a part of the sideline that they weren't supposed to, and another first round pick for playing football in cold weather.

Think you might be conflating with the Celtics with the Red Sox. Red Auerbach was pretty progressive for his day: http://www.sportshistorytod…

C'mon, Kramer practically raised his kids!

Was I the only one bothered by the fact that the text field automatically appended commas to the numbers as she typed it in. Are we supposed to believe this is some sort of magical text field?!? I can't believe more people aren't outraged by this.

Whereabouts in Boston are you guys? Because I've lived in Boston for 6 or 7 years now, and it's fairly rare for me to see those kind of guys. And there's no way that kind of guy would be hanging around Newton….I hope someone got fired for that blunder.

@avclub-f0a25fc22f6198ce61fe90730dc075e1:disqus The sad thing about his suicide is that if he just hung around for 2 more years, he could have seen The Miracle Mets win it all.

So glad that this show is getting the TVClub treatment. I know it's not this specific episode, but the joke about the Japanese Garden is quite possibly the hardest I've ever laughed at a joke in my life.

One of my favorite Allen quotes was about C&M, and how he wanted 'to illustrate in an entertaining way how there is no God and life is meaningless'. The funniest part about it is that he wasn't joking in the slightest.

Yeah, I agree, the tone of this post was annoyingly dickish (as opposed to the humorously dickish tone the AV Club generally excels in).

Yeah, seriously, I think the Gervais backlash is getting a bit out of hand. This definitely felt a little derivative of Extras, but I thought the Liam Neeson bit and the Ebony & Ivory bit were hilarious.

Yeah, I agree, it kind of bothered me. I want to live in the world of Parks & Rec, where actions don't have consequences (for Tom, at least).

Yeah, seriously, at first I thought that was a joke. I mean, Hasn't "the era of awkwardness in comedy television" been around since The Office came out (more than 10 years ago)?

Creed is (or at least was, pre-Nickelback) considered the epitome of bland/mainstream/corporate rock. Matador is a well-known indie label that is (in the opinion of Cross and others) home to many more interesting/innovative/better artists.

Haha, yeah, I love that stuff too. I think my favorite was his novel STEPHEN COLBERT PRESENTS: ALPHA SQUAD 7: LADY NOCTURNE: A TEK JANSEN ADVENTURE. And there's also of course his well-documented hatred of bears.

This reminds me of one of my favorite Conan O'Brien stories. When he was working for the The Simpsons, all the writers went on some retreat to Florida, and Conan  decided that it would be funny to start telling random people that he was Harry Morgan's grandson. As one of the other writers remembered it, pretty much
