It mattered if you owned stock in Tide detergent or Winchester shotgun shells.

My comment is awaiting moderation? WTF? On the AvClub? My god, what PC button did I push to get this place to put my comment on a time out? Was it because I dropped a C U Next Tuesday on Andie from Pretty in Pink?

If Quick Change is only a comedy, then how can Groundhog Day qualify? Stop being so black and white.

I know this is a 1993 piece, but Groundhog Day needs people to "discover" it like oxygen needs discovering. Mad Dog and Glory was filmed in 1993, so might have been nice to see them go with that one.

You never know what a show will morph into. LOST was originally pitched as being about a divorced woman with a teen son trying to restart her life and a singing career by taking a temporary job as a waitress at a small diner in the American southwest.

And were it not for The Razor's Edge (1984), you'd be right by 9-14 years. And then of course there was Quick Change (1990) and Mad Dog and Glory (1994). But, hey, nice try.

You would not count as a viewer by doing that. I also do the same thing, so I would not count as viewer because I do that.

Sure, but DVR viewing does not help shows in anything other than press releases. Advertisers do not pay a single dollar for ratings generated via DVR viewings. Only viewings where the commercials are actually watched count. The actual ratings that are used to set ad rates are referred to as C3 ratings, and that

Sort of a good news-bad news with AOS last night. Bad news was it hit new lows in viewers and 18-49. It's 18-49 number is now below NCIS, which is supposed to be an old peoples show. Good news was that it stopped dropping in men 18-34, and evevn went up a tick. Drawing young men is tough, so that is definitely good

I'm pretty surprised by the harsh mood for this film here. I think it's a corker, and it's not like it was under appreciated at the time. It received a lot of critical love when it was released. The stilted direction, I think, is actually a choice, and it's a choice that works well. The stilted nature of many of the

Plus it has Jeff Goldblum and Mr. Spock, so, you know, asked and answered.

And I think that accurate sentiment is what makes the 78 version seem the superior one to me now that it is older than the 56 version was when the latter was released. The thing is, the Red Scare was bogus fear mongering and easily exposed as such even during its time. It was fading away almost completely by 78, and

A recent movie that reminds me of this was Cabin in the Woods. When I
saw that in the theater, it was in a packed second run house. Half the
people were roaring with laughter, while the other half sat there in
dumbfounded disbelief. It was fans of satire vs. fans of Saw IV. Based
on the box office, I'd say fans of

"You killed Moe Zart!"

That's some bad hat.

I'd be willing to admit I'm wrong on that point, but I cannot for the life of me think of any shows that hit as big as Lost and DH did that year. That was the last great (as in large) year of network television drama. If you can point out another one to me, I'd be happy to consider it.

An excellent evisceration of this faux-doc today in Slate, which points out that it has one fatal flaw: the hysteria over War of the Worlds actually never happened. Apparently, the doc's producers contacted the academics who wrote the article, but since the truth didn't fit the doc's premise, they decided to leave it

Okay, I was never a DH fan, having stopped watching about six episodes in, but let me offer a little memory refresher: The DH pilot scored big ratings AND left people jibber-jabbering about it. Rather than repel viewers, it turned them in proselytizers, and that drew in more viewers. And because the people who

Well, I cannot argue. I thought it was terrible, no doubt, but not dull in quite the same way I have found SHIELD to be. But I think that's toe-may-toe/toe-mah-toe. It definitely sucked bad enough that I turned it off a little over halfway through and so far have not be convinced to go back to the show for a second

All I know, is I'm a Heat.
