I'm in the extreme minority, but I didn't hate season 5, or at least appreciated that they tried to change up the formula a little. Seasons 3, 6, 7, 8 were awful, with 6 as the worst. Damn tableaus.

You must have been bummed when Saved by the Bell ended.
The Season of Joan is always the best season.
Yes. I liked this season but it may be the first one where I found Don's storyline the least interesting of the bunch and pretty much a retread of where we've been before (until Sally walks in). I was surprised to see an article about this season that didn't mention any of the other characters except Sally. Not even…
By coincidence, I checked out Replay and Life After Life at the same time a few months ago, not realizing how similar the themes were. By the time I'd finished both, I was surprised to wake up and not be in the past.
I waited much too long to watch Justified because I'm not really into westerns or cop shows. Thank God I didn't listen to myself and gave it a shot because it's easily in my top ten all time favorite TV shows. So good on all levels, and one of the few shows I want to watch over and over again.
What's interesting about the mythology episodes is that they never make that all that much sense, really, even going back to the pilot. But that type of storytelling was so innovative at the time, the characters were so strong, and the visuals so compelling that a lot of the plot got a pass. The XF clearly works best…
Very much agree about Essence/Existence being a better choice for a series ending, or at least an ending for Mulder and Scully's presence in the show. Season 9 used up any remaining goodwill fans had.
I forget how long it's been since these episodes aired until they make that "Mad About You" reference, and I remember that show is a thing that existed.
It's probably not a good sign that I enjoyed the Mulder/Scully scenes in Empedocles more than I did anything to do with the actual x-file. Evil did it? Okay. And while I liked the different character interactions, I have such a hard time warming up to Reyes. The other three have well defined character strengths and…
Am I the only one who was lukewarm on Rectify? I wanted to love it after seeing all the lavish praise, but I never felt connected to the characters. It was beautifully shot and I admire what it was trying to do, but Daniel's opacity started to wear on me after a while. Maybe it's because I grew up near where it was…
The plot elements in Deadalive make no sense whatsoever, but that moment when Mulder wakes up gets me every time. His joke, her reaction. What a perfectly acted scene.
Yeah, it looks so much like Fringe that I kept expecting them to walk around a corner and run into Olivia. But I thought it was pretty solid for a pilot. Nothing groundbreaking, but I liked the main characters enough to stick around for a while.
Somehow I have no problem imagining Mulder keeping Scully's ova in his freezer all this time, along with maybe some concentrated OJ and nothing else. It's Mulder.
What makes "This is Not Happening" especially tragic is how Mulder would have likely been fine had Scully and the FBI not interfered and let Jeremiah Smith do his thing. Just one more way to twist the knife a little more. Her scream at the end feel so earned, and Anderson nails it perfectly. I remember reading some…
I think it gets one more mention just to say it was somehow cured during his abduction. So yay alien technology? I just can't even.
Living in Boston, I found Jenkins' accent and the character's villainous "the trains must go on" routine kind of laughable. Wouldn't the feds have more say in that kind of situation? Maybe I don't know how government works. But every time I have to take a shuttle bus from one stop to another because the trains are…
You just described my feelings about season 5 and The Gift exactly. I enjoyed the same elements you did, but without hyperbole I say Dawn was the worst character in all of TV history. I was hoping she would die in The Gift, so the weight of Buffy's sacrifice was kind of lost on me.
So much agree. Zack did a nice review and I'm glad he enjoyed it, but I could never get past my irritation with the retcon to judge the episode on its own merits. It was such a waste of Duchovny when they had limited episodes with him. I would have much rather seen more of him dealing with the fallout of his abduction…
I just hope his kids never cross him, or he'll make potty training hell.
