"It’s like a Big Gulp version of Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, but much bigger and broader in scope, and with stories that disrupt each other more often as they syncopate."

I think a C is right, and I agree that it's nowhere near the depths of season 9 or even Fight Club or First Person Shooter from season 7. Agua Mala did have some good ideas around the edges, but just couldn't pull them together. The pacing was off, and the stakes never felt very high. Even Scully didn't seem that

Agreed on All Things, but I actually like Duchovny's episode Hollywood AD. I remember hating it the first time I saw it, and it definitely has flaws, but I find more reasons to like it every time I see it. And it's one of the few from season 7 that I really love re-watching.

Alpha is still my pick for worst episode of the season, but Agua Mala runs a close second. Just ridiculous, and not even in an interesting way. And those supporting characters, like Todd said, were such awful stereotypes. I'm glad they tried to do a darker (both literally and figuratively) classic MOTW episode, but

I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed the later seasons of Smallville. It was never a great show by any stretch of the imagination, and the middle seasons got pretty bad, but the JLA stuff toward the end was fun. I loved Justin Hartley's Oliver Queen. I'll probably check out Arrow because my standards for

The dip in quality happens after the killer reveal, and those episodes are amazing. But then the show just kind of meanders and it gets pretty awful for a while. Feel free to fast forward anything with James. But it's worth powering through for the final episodes. The series finale is my favorite episode of TV ever.

Todd, your bold declaration about last week's episode finally convinced me to check out this series for the first time, and I can't say enough thanks for talking it up in your reviews. I watched all the episodes in just a few days and find it to be one of the most touching, refreshing shows I've seen in ages. It's

Did Mulder realize that Diana Fowley had been betraying him? I could never figure out what we were supposed to think about all that, considering the way she shows up later. Breaking Bad connections: On a re-watch of Tithonus, I noticed that Mulder is doing a background check on a "Ms. Ehrmantraut." I like to imagine he was checking up on one of Mike's relatives. I wonder if that name is another of Gilligan's many Holly references, or just a more common last name than I realize.

I agree. I think Tithonus is one of the series most underrated episodes, quietly tense and solid in every way. I love a strong Scully episode, and this was one of her best. I like her disdain for and dismissal of Ritter when she realizes he's manipulating the system. As much as she was frustrated by Mulder, this

In Bruges was my first thought, too. Anything with Colin Farrell immediately equals low expectations for me, but I'd rank it in my top ten favorite movies. Brilliantly dark and funny. Conversely, I hope I'm not jinxing myself by how much I'm looking forward to Seven Psychopaths.
