also  - public knowledge of a corrupt chinese leader = execution? there'd be no leaders at all except for those at the real top, who are never scrutinised… there's lots of public knowledge and a lot of laws, but no dependable universally applied rule of law, (which is, in my opinion, the greatest strength of the US

I think the Chinese have a better concept of irony than we do. In the USA there's a level of earnestness with which we view our own elected officials, and to a larger degree, the system they operate in.

l/r is more a problem with Japanese L1 speakers, maybe korean, but certainly not northern Chinese (no real experience with the south).  r itself is a bit of a problem, in Mandarin it's more like a french r, a fricative sound, so they tend to mess that up.

didn't go well

for a hindu, should be for gods' sake?

i remember one episode where i feared i might have some kind of stroke due to the flashing lights behind the characters.  might be this one.

Yes, all true - I really think this episode shows shimmerman's strengths that we see throughout the series- going back and forth between being the straight man for the rest of the goofball ferengi, and a comedic foil for the straighter-laced main cast.

I think people are focusing too much on the 'science' and the purple orbs.  I really do like rivals, and don't see the crap science as an issue.  I like seeing Bashir and O'Brien hate-love, and i liked a lot of Quark's lines, and I just liked seeing these characters deal with a goofy plot.

So much hate for rivals! I feel like i should be ashamed to say I kinda like it.  It's silly, and at this point we know the characters well enough that just seeing them go through some silliness is fun.

how did i get here?

me for one!

I recently watched LSOH again and it holds up miles better than you would expect - why would anyone want to remake it??!!

Kevin in full makeup looked like he could stand in for meagan draper in a pinch.
