i bought the kindle because i live in a country where they don't speak / publish in English. To not have to go searching through some old pile in a friend's house to get a six month old copy of the New Yorker and to read things that I couldn't get because of censorship and CRAZY prices for overseas shipping is really

People used to clap when the flight they were on landed safely. I flew many Lot flights (polish airlines) in the 90s and it happened every single time.

MASHAKA AWAKES!

@Jeebus, that's a generous but fair theory. It's too bad, because lore and dr soong are interesting aspects of the show, and they could be better. also, they really didn't do 'make someone old' makeup that well back then - when playing the aged soong spiner always looked like a plastic surgery addict twenty years

it's a lively forum of fans celebrating a mutual appreciation in a unique way. yes, it quickly gets unwieldy but so what? if you really want a strictly serious 'reasonable discussion', there are lots of articles on higher brow stuff on this site, TNG isn't exactly good fodder for critical analysis anyway.

ugh. just….. ugh.

the reason i mentioned that hand thing is because it has always bothered me. With science fiction, you have to expect that there's some shit that isn't explained but there has to be internal consistency in terms of how 'hard' the science fiction is in the story telling. As a regular audience, we come to expect a

That's it - Sirtis is now officially better than Frakes (for the moment!)

that's what i'm saying! i know we are supposed overlook some sloppy science in sci-fi, but that was just some sloppy sloppy science.

god - every character Brent Spiner did that wasn't data was cringey… CRINGEY!

yeah, i know, the chief. but that would be a really dumb cross-over as he just left the enterprise like four months previous…..

can someone explain how
making limited contact with a 'biomimetic'-type substance / life form, with contact limited to a small section of a fingertip, results in the substance mimicking a whole hand. Why not just the cells it came in contact with? why not the whole Beverly Crusher?

@Jimmy

Agreed re Bashir (see above) and also, Zack, please don't get turned off to DS9 by this lameass crossover or the fact that bland but annoying Bashir is actually not as bad as bland, annoying and bad acting Bashir of the first season. It really does get phenomenally good quite quickly.

ha! thanks for the lol!

the point of that crossover (at that point in history) was probably:

Also, watching birthright part 1 now, and (spoilers?) and early season Bashir is THE WORST ambassador they could have chosen from DS9.

neither of these episodes really do it for me
but i enjoyed the review, particularly now that i'm thinking how watching this stuff as a kid was far different from watching it now…. i used to really dig face of the enemy but having just watched it now, it's really not that hot.

holy shit - how i wish the paleontology channel was real!
