We have pretty much the same system in the UK. If something inappropriate does get broadcast then people will complain (it's the national sport), but just about no-one's campaigning for a list of words you can't say on TV. (Though I'm not sure what the rule is on the C-word; it's usually bleeped but occasionally not.)
