If Settlers with Knights and Cities is too complex for you I would suggest playing Ticket to Ride… or perhaps Operation?

@avclub-d1dd537846e529e1101d7c23e170fe4b:disqus If you're not paying attention to what colours others players are building than you could be in for a world of hurt.

@avclub-c1fe85b855c6d045b827f74a1e2c3fd7:disqus I only ask as pre-internet there was only a single flavour of A&A.  Post-internet there are more than a dozen…

If you had told me I'd be spending FAR too much cash collecting Star Wars CCG cards 6 months ago I would have laughed — the last time I played it was 15+ years ago!  Speaking of Magic though, have you tried Netrunner?  It was designed by Richard Garfield who also created Magic.  It's still generally well thought of

Alhambra certainly doesn't require the type of neuron bashing that a game like Tigris & Euphrates demands but there are certainly some analysis paralysis moments going on when our group plays it.  Personally, I feel it's a great gateway drug board game that most newbies seem to enjoy, is relatively short  and is

Why?

It's only broken if other players don't realize there is a corn strategy.  The two easiest ways to break the corn strategy:  1) block the boat(s) with alternative crops/products; 2) don't allow someone to monopolize the corn crop.

Forget that, I want the game from Never Say Never Again installed at my home:

I've played Agricola a number of times now and while I really like it, I haven't fallen in love with it (yet?).  Perhaps it's because I haven't played the game enough or as much as some of the other games I listed.  Having said that, I was just having a conversation with a coworker about it today and he stated the

Agreed with you on the Cities and Knights expansion of Settlers of Catan — I haven't played the original flavour of Catan for quite some time.  Having said that, have you ever tried the 5-6 player expansion for Catan?  I had the misfortune of playing it once and I will never make that mistake again.  It literally took

@avclub-55e3810d28d3d3b098f2405b29602eea:disqus Orgies with my group would be an unpleasant affair.  So, with that in mind, I should probably find myself a good orgy group, no?  Hmm… the idea has merit!

I actually prefer Puerto Rico but both games are great.  Boardgamegeek.com has them as 3 and 4 on their list of top games.

"Samurai" is absolutely fantastic!

We ended up adding house rules in Munchkin that forced everyone to screw each other as hard as possible, whenever possible.  It was a lot of fun for a while until we realized that games were taking ridiculously long to play as a result.

A few thoughts:

The failure of John Carter was another beast altogether.  It's like Disney green-lighted a huge budget, the film got produced and then they got cold feet and decided to pretend it didn't exist and very poorly marketed the film.  Ridiculous too, as Carter should have been a slam dunk.

I remember graduating from CYOA books to Fighting Fantasy and then on to The Way of the Tiger series — which was pretty awesome for a 10 year old boy who was obsessed with ninjas.

Terrible version.  Terrible video.  Just… terrible.
