To be honest, the first 3 tracks blew me away and I was thinking the album was well on its way to being somehow better than S=Y.  After track 3 though there's just nothing that really blows my mind.  It's all sort of… good-ish.  "Steve McQueen" is okay but just doesn't quite do it for me (I *really* want to like it)

Absolutely, 100% completely yes!  Like yourself, I previously only had the Shine On box as well as the individual non-box albums and I can honestly say the difference in sound quality is night and day.  The only thing that absolutely pisses me off is the lack of including a non-album Singles CD like Shine On provided.

Agreed.  "Childhood's End" is a natural precursor to DSotM and easily one of their greatest tracks ever.  Oddly enough, it's also the last Gilmour written track until the post-Waters years.

Is it unfathomable?  Really?  God forbid some people enjoy music that you think is shite.

There are some similarities but it's far from being a "Smells Like Teen Spirit" rewrite.  And frankly, who cares?  You like it or you don't.  I like it and ironically don't like "Smells Like Teen Spirit".  Go figure.

The prettiest girl at the prom?  Really?  I suppose if you enjoy layers upon layers of makeup on your date.  Just because a girl is popular doesn't mean she's automatically pretty, folks.

Do all smart people listen to the same kind of music?  Do they all agree that Bjork is "smart music for dumb people"?  Is there a review board that publishes these objective "smart people" music laws and/or lists of smart approved artists?

You may wish to clean out your ears and listen to "She's Lost Control", "Transmission", "Shadowplay", etc. etc.

I'm sure on any given day the order might change, but here goes:

I'd nominate "Obscured by Clouds" as their most underrated but I absolutely love "Atom Heart Mother".  The title track and "Summer '68" are brilliant.  If I remember correctly, Dave Gilmour stated that, looking back, AHM was "embarrassing" (or something to that effect).  I love Gilmour, but I absolutely disagree…

Or Dungeons & Dragons…

I just saw them live earlier this year in Toronto and they put on a fantastic show (which was packed).  The highlight for me had to be hearing them play "Souvenir"… ahhh… such an incredibly sombre and beautiful track.

Oops…

Frankly, Martin's best songs were much more inward looking — dealing with the fragility of relationships, love, lust and loss.

I've always found EN to be one of those seminal bands who laid the groundwork for other artists but never one I could seriously listen to.  Kind of like DAF and Throbbing Gristle.  Having said that, I love that they existed if only to lay the path for bands such as FLA, Skinny Puppy and Front 242.

Why wouldn't they get positive attention?  Other than Kraftwerk, can you think of a synth-based band that inspired more artists than DM?  And for damn good reason: they are incredible.

Matthew Good's "Avalanche" surely should be considered as a Desert Island Album.  The song "While We Were Hunting Rabbits" alone elevates the album to classic status.

Ironically, I wasn't impressed with any of M83's albums until Saturdays=Youth — which, IMHO, is one of the best albums of the past 10 years.  As per Hurry Up, the first 3 tracks blew me away (especially "Intro") but there's nothing on either side of the album that quite reaches those initial heights.  A bit of a

Why would I forget TRON?  Stunning film and fantastic soundtrack.  I'll never understand the hate…

Absolutely agree, one of the few classic horror films of the 80s.  Forgettable?  Nonsense.
