I've actually seen that movie thrice (once for a review, once for CTOTD and once just cause I'm a masochist) and have no plans to revisit it a third time. It's got kind of a fascinating commentary track, though, with an ancient Kenneth Anakin vaguely recalling that he once made a movie about pirates and wondering why

We're strongly discouraged from swearing here at The Club. You won't read any potty-mouthed motherfucking bullshit here on this pristine site.

Yeah, that photo looks weird and fake but who would bother faking something like that?

(Wholly unnecessary SPOILER) Langella's name is Dawg (you know, like the bounty hunter) so when Davis blasts him with a canon she says "Bad Dawg". Hilarity ensues.

No. No, it was not.

Both are modest commercial successes, I'm afraid.

I remember Bill Pullman being very funny in that movie, basically playing Chief Wiggum. Otherwise it was fairly dire. Nora Ephron+Black Comedy=not such a winning combination.

yeah, these will probably be a little more obscure. Less high profile flops, more weird oddities like this.

Well, it is a big comic book-style movie. I don't think they were going for a sociological portrait of gang culture or neo-realism. I dunno: my street gang always wore baseball uniforms so I at least found that part realistic.

One nice thing about this side project is that I'll be able to cover more reader requests that might not merit a full-on MYOF entry. I might very well end up doing "The Stupids".

Yeah, I guess this got a fair amount of play on cable. I guess cause people said "Hey, Dan Aykroyd, Lily Tomlin and Jack Lemmon. Why haven't I even heard of this movie?" upon stumbling onto it. Five minutes later they had their answer.

Shut up, you
I know where you live. Don't fuck with me.

So how
is this any different from My Year Of Flops proper?

I'll probably address this in a future entry but the SCTV gang's film careers weren't entirely devoid of cinematic goodness. They just appeared in a lot of crap. Then again so does pretty much every actor or actress who's not Daniel Day Lewis.

That's true. And Jane Krakowski did win that gold-painted cookie.

Yeah, we point these posts ourselves and we have a blog rotation so there's not total anarchy. The Hater is a whole different thang than the blog.

Bo Belinsky wrote a book? I'll have to check that shit out. I actually still need to read "Ball Four". To Amazon I go!

Sadly,
that's pretty much how I spend every afternoon here at the A.V Club.

Incidentally
if you're interested in seeing nekkid pictures of a 100-year-old Mamie Van Doren plenty can be found on Google Images (shudders)

It speaks to 30 Rock's
mind-blowing awesomeness that it got seven nominations for best guest turn and easily could have gotten five or six more, including:
