The Beast isn't abusive. He's a sourpuss who's trying to learn how to talk to a girl. The only one the Beast is cruel to in the movie is her dad. He locks up the Dad up for trespassing, which he doesn't even do to Belle after she does the same thing. She volunteers to stay. The Beast kicks her out the same night, but

La Resistance is my favorite scene in the movie.
