Give it a rest.

Enya does Napalm Death's Scum.

God only knows why we voted for him

"Play the inauguration or you will never headline a state fair again!"

I still have questions.

Give me a schtickle of fluoride.

So that explains why he looks like that.

I swear that Trump's doctor was the inspiration for Freewheelin' Franklin from the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.

People smarter than I am will come up with workable solutions, one hopes.

True enough. There might be other solutions, but they are inevitably going to cost residents more $$$$. A lot of these kinds of spaces are in trouble not just because of these kinds of violations, but because of gentrification in general. LoBot Gallery, which was something of an Oakland institution, just closed down

That's CYA in advance of any criminal proceedings.

I don't disagree, but the reality is that doing both will make it impossible for many of these kinds of venues to exist. A performance of weird electronic music for an audience of 50 people is going to have a much harder time being booked at a bar or traditional venue. And so it's going to be a lot harder for these

Yeah, they were probably in violation just by using it as a work space, much less living and booking shows there.

Whether there was a show there or not, the space was in violation because it was zoned as a warehouse, but people were living there. In light of what happened, I don't expect Oakland to split hairs over why they were in violation and do assume they'll just shut these places down. There was a sort of laissez faire

This kind of place is pretty common in Oakland. An ad hoc warehouse space where the landlord turns a blind eye to the fact that people are using it as a residence/performance space. The tenants build it out without getting permitting or taking safety requirements into account. Shows at this venue were basically an

"I like it when I make money for doing nothing."

My heart goes out to those lost or injured due to this tragedy. I don't know how many times I've been in some warehouse or loft space in Oakland and wondered how it could possibly be up to code or safe for crowds. As often as not, the events weren't permitted, and I know a few spaces that got shut down because of it.

Apparently Basil was inspired by a guy who ran a hotel with his wife where the Pythons would go to write. They all thought it was hilarious that a guy running a hotel was so constantly upset and put out by his customers.

Please let him be Secretary of Being Punched in the Nards

You'll take my 8-track when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.
