Not looking to get into a grudge match between the Miller and Moore fans, but there's no doubt that between them they captured the imaginations of a new generation of comic fans and lured back people - like me - who had given up on the mainstream stuff. Even the NME covered comics in that era,

Another late 80s candidate (and also pretty obscure) was the Godfather's single "Birth School Work Death." The title (and chorus) pretty much said it all - this was all that life had to offer, so why keep going? .

This one is pretty obscure.
Master British songwriter Robert Lloyd released Funeral Stomp in the late 80s.
The chorus lyrics go something like:
