I'd love to see the AV Club assess Grantland. Maybe they will later on, or it might be too much of a competitor. I feel like AVC never really found the right niche to reach the intelligent and media-savvy sports fans here, so I don't think they regret too much that someone is doing it now.

Watched again two days ago by chance…
and it seems just sort of slow and quaint and doesn't bust a gut like it did 10 years ago when I couldn't really even relate to the work themes. I'm not sure how to weigh how much I've changed versus how much good comedies have changed. I still love the movie, but Judge seems

…reasonable to me to be…

I don't agree with a lot of your assessments.

Another vote for Happy Endings. The better episodes come together in a Seinfeldian way sometimes, and the one-liners are a lot sharper than any other new comedy. It's a good companion with Cougar Town.

I am pretty sure a good deal of Community viewers are familiar with My Dinner With Andre from the Simpsons reference.

Up (Not Russ Meyer's)
Can someone tell me what was good about this movie after the first 30 minutes? I get why people liked that, and it was very well done, and it pretty much sucked after that. The action sequences sucked, and it felt super forced. And the jokes were basically on par with CBS comedy. It was not

Sometimes things can be pretty damn close to objectively shit.

I feel like it would be really hard to find a band that is so successful at so many genres. But I wonder if it's just that I enjoy Boris's sensibilities as a metal fan, and actual fans of pop music wouldn't like their pop songs. There might be way too much going on for them.

For a long time I preferred Pink by a ton over Smile, but the gap has closed considerably for me. I think there's way less filler on Smile. The final four tracks are as much of murderer's row as they have. Pink seems to have a few throwaways (Blackout grinds the album to a halt for me half the time).

Most of the songs on the Japanese-only New Album appear on either of the two American ones in somewhat reworked versions. The fourth full-length is an old recording of Merzbow doing most of the Akuma No Uta songs with Boris, plus two original tracks. It's rad, and also up on YouTube. It actually has been sort of a

I think it may have had something to do with that she didn't appear to be a particularly good singer on previous releases. What she does on Rainbow or Altar doesn't really suggest that she can carry a pop tune.

Cougar Town Appreciation Thread
I miss the show and want it to come back. But now I have no reason to watch TV on Wednesdays.

I thought this was a terrific episode. There were so, so many jokes, and they almost all hit for me. I've never seen a Real Housewives of anywhere episode, but it's pretty obvious where the spoofs are coming from.

I am inclined to say S2 is slightly better. The best of S2>S1, but the worst of S2<S1. Those first few times when they left campus felt like huge events, and I suppose when I revisit them later on it won't seem like a big deal anymore. I kind of think the show has been very up and down since Christmas, but I think

Canseco looked bizarre on that point. The others were right to ignore him.

Star Jones is a stone bitch.
She has to be the worst human being on this show. Dionne Warwick seems absolutely miserable as well. Before this week I thought the Playboy model was as deaf as Matlin, but she had a few moments where she almost stood up to the scary black people, who were just so mean to poor Lisa

And it's TWO HOURS each week.

Definitely seems like this could have been two hours worth of material. I wanted to hear from the safe teams about what they were going to do differently going forward. Maybe this comes at the beginning of next week.

That guy is the kind of person I just can't stand in real life. Not to mention that best case scenario for his restaurant seems like Sbarros minus the pizza.
