When I lived in Phoenix I discovered that it's physically impossible not to say, "Holy shit, it's hot" when you get in your car after work. No matter how hard you try not to, it's just an involuntary response.

Oooh, I'm always looking for reasons to use up preserved lemons. (In fact, I had a quinoa pilaf last night for that express purpose.) That salad looks like a perfect outlet for them!
It's so gorgeous out, so it's grill week! Last night I grilled some pork chops and had them with a peach-basil-onion sauce I'd canned last summer and some quinoa with preserved lemons. Tonight will be turkey cheeseburgers with fries. Life is grand!
I'm fairly confident I ate horse meat every night for dinner when I was on a month-long student exchange in Moscow in high school. It was some kind of red meat that definitely wasn't beef (or definitely wasn't fresh beef), and while it wasn't bad, I wasn't interested in finding out the source animal. But the point…
I had a super-cranky morning so I cheated a little and put on my 12-hour Super Mega Sunshine For Your Earholes playlist and shuffled that. So there was some pre-selection here today:
I'm feeling great! No allergies for me — when I had a scratch test done way back in the day (trying to find a source for my constant headaches… uh, I guess there's my trade-off), the only thing I reacted to was the placebo. [/smug]
My mind was blown when it was suggested to me that it would be like "discuss" the verb. It's spelled like "discus" the noun, but stupider (and behaves accordingly).
Cats and open windows are just so wonderful. My guys freaked out yesterday when we opened the house up — it was like Christmas morning for kitties.
My cats love packing paper, so you better believe my front hall and family room are covered with giant sheets of paper from the packaging of stuff we've had delivered. I'm not yet at the point where I order stuff online for the sole purpose of getting more paper for the cats to play in, but I'm not saying I can't see…
He looks like he could easily take down a horse.
My cats freak out with TV doorbells, too. That, and goal horns during hockey games. And they all love crying babies. Probably because they know they're fictional and don't have to deal with real-life crying babies… Or they're dreaming of sucking the breath out of infants.
My now-deceased cats (old age! It had nothing to do with their TV-watching habits, I swear!) used to love a video a friend had given us called "Kitty Safari". The segments with squirrels and birds were a huge hit, but all three cats would zone out during the boring fish part. Too much wordy exposition, I guess.
@avclub-f7f8eb12e0f61a9321597157c0d61791:disqus I watch The Voice! Unironically! I… don't think that should change your opinion of the show's viewers and their tastes. ::slinks away::
@Dikachu:disqus I did exactly the same thing — discovered REM and U2 simultaneously, but with Out of Time and Achtung Baby. I was 15, and they were my gateway to becoming a rock fan. For about three years they were the titans of my fandom; they were a huge part of my identity right up until I was in a "what bands do…
I haven't seen "For Love of the Game", but now I'm kind of tempted. I love getting outraged at game-based errors in sports movies. My dream job would be as a sports consultant for movies; they wouldn't have to pay me big bucks to do the sort of on-set consulting that serious subject-matter experts get, but I could…
She was my dad's favorite Mouseketeer, too. I remember him being all excited for Back to the Beach when I was a kid (but don't recall whether we had to go see it).
@avclub-f62296b9393b6ab9229ebde91ed8469f:disqus Yeah, I'm definitely not holding my breath for a reunion, and, like you say, it probably wouldn't live up to expectations even if the impossible happened.
He also played in the San Francisco Mondo Cane concert(s?) a few years ago. And Patton did the vocals for the "La Chanson de Jacky" single that Secret Chiefs 3 put out last year. It's a detente!
Retrovertigo is the most-played song on my iPod, by miles. It's not even close. Man, I love that song so much… And seriously, "California" is just a flawless album.
I'm seething with jealousy right now for your innocent and unsullied life. I think there was a time in high school when I heard this song, just as background noise, literally 24 hours a day. God, it really was everywhere. ALL THE TIME. It's a miracle I didn't stab out my eardrums with a knitting needle, just to…
