In as much as ever actually "work out" (my exercise regimen consists of very infrequently taking to a stationary bike and then putting in about 20 minutes of pedaling like Kermit The Frog; I'd probably burn more calories just by standing in place) I like to listen to Big Business's Quadruple Single.

Knitting on enormous needles is so much fun!  I remember back in my knitting days doing something a scarf with Colinette yarn on size 50s; it was like knitting with magic markers.

I've got leftover homemade mac & cheese from last night's dinner for my lunch today.  WOO HOO!  I made the sauce with cheddar, fontina and manchego, and it turned out sublime.  Also, I used orecchiette instead of elbow macaroni, so it would seem classier.  Best leftover lunch ever.

Yeah, I found myself driving past scads of fast-food restaurants last weekend with my mother, and as soon as we saw that all of them were advertising fish, we said in unison, "Huh.  Must be Lent."

@avclub-525f76574b3a2a5bcb4da793c92a16fb:disqus Yeah, I can see how Fish McBites would be far superior to the full-sized fish sandwich, because of the higher ratio of the elements that make it a McBite to the elements that make it Fish.  Being someone who finds anything that lived in the sea to be vile-tasting, this

For quilting the best thread I've found is Aurifil's 40 wt. cotton thread.  It's great for hand and machine piecing.  I've used Connecting Thread's 40 wt. cotton and it tangles a little bit more when hand piecing; Aurifil is so high performance!  (Why yes, I did just refer to a quilting thread as "high performance".)

I agree!  I watched it after hearing a lot of backlash and antagonism, so I went in with the intention to resist (it wasn't my choice of movie that evening).  Instead I found it charming, entertaining, funny, and utterly beautiful to look at.  And I was impressed that the conflict was centered on a mother/daughter

Seeing the headline at the top of the Newswire now, I was momentarily concerned that my computer or the website itself were being wonky and posting months- or years-old stories.  Surely this isn't current news… right?

The more examples I hear from this movie the more I find it difficult to believe it actually exists.  This thing sounds epic.

Yeah, I caught an episode of Thundercats as an adult, but way back before the nostalgia boom had really hit; it was really the most random thing ever, on the TV at the gate in a tiny regional airport, like where a real airport would have CNN on.  I mean, the hell??  Thundercats?  At the airport?  In 1997?  Anyway, it

That's been my favorite thing about becoming vinyl-enabled.  "Wait, I get the fun of having this on vinyl, but then add on the convenience of a digital copy FOR FREE?"  (You know, because it never really crosses my mind that the vinyl costs quite a bit more than just paying for a digital copy to start out with… But

Yep.  Over the last year and a half or so I've started to put together a pretty good sound system and I was shocked — shocked!!! — to discover how crappy my music-listening experience had been.  Now that I'm better equipped I buy a fair percentage of new (and new-to-me) music on CD (or vinyl), although sometimes the

Yeah, I was surprised to discover that CD-wrapping technology had not advanced in the years between my current CD purchases and past ones.  Surely those years were enough time to make that better!  (Of course it still beats those long boxes from the good ol' days…)

Comcast's DVR is maddening.  The best a person can say about it is that it sucks.

Unrelated to advertising, but that was the reason my father wouldn't let me read "Berenstein Bears" books when I was a kid, and then wouldn't let me watch "The Simpsons" when I was a pre-teen (when it first started airing).  He was sternly opposed to pop cultural representations of buffoonish fathers, so I suppose for

I've had DirecTV for the better part of the last 15 years, but I've occasionally dallied with cable, and I gotta say that Comcast sucked way, way, way worse than DirecTV.  The picture quality was worse and reception less reliable, the DVR was clunkier and impossible to control, and the customer service was

That is, for my money, the best ad on TV right now.  I mean, the two bearded ukulele guys make no sense to me, but that's okay!  The Mutombo part is brilliant!  You don't even have to un-mute the commercial break to appreciate it; in fact, it's almost better without sound.

@avclub-b0dae075785888267fc19871f3e7dab7:disqus Oh man, the "Great Googly Moogly" ad was so great.  I'd un-mute the TV to hear that one.

I watch a ton of TV but it's all NHL games broadcast on their local cable carriers on the Center Ice package on DirecTV.  So I see (most often muted) tons of commercials for DirecTV, erectile dysfunction drugs, trucks, beer, and whatever bank/insurance/rental car company that sponsors the local team.  In short,

There is NOTHING good about the Etrade baby.  Nothing.  Just like the comments above about the GoDaddy ads being so bad that people will never ever ever ever consider using GoDaddy's services, the Etrade baby has guaranteed that I will not only refuse to use their services, but I would also refuse a life preserver if
