Chocolate bourbon bundt cake? Tell me more…
@LJo1:disqus YES! It's the most horrible thing ever! It's hard to imagine how anyone even managed to figure out how to fry eggs before the invention of teflon. Clearly whoever it was had assistants to work on the clean-up.
Last week I made a stuffed turkey breast with goat cheese and chipotle cherry preserves. I had a significant amount left over, so I cubed up the cold meat and made a dressing of goat cheese and mayo with minced red onions, fresh celery, and pickled garlic scapes. It ended up being the most ridiculously delicious…
Huzzah for creative pesto!
That's just disgusting. DISGUSTING, I TELLS YA!
Do you mean "and then fell down… an open manhole cover"? Because that would be even funnier.
"Fapping Etiquette with @avclub-0304234e5dac07d007cf06c22b3f29c4:disqus " makes "Hints from Heloise" look like a pile of puke.
"Instant summer" is so right. It's getting to be seed-starting time at Casa n Dick, and I just love thinning the wee seedlings because they smell like their full-grown versions — there's nothing as great as doing a little indoor gardening in March and having your hands smell like fresh basil and tomato plants.
The whole "poisonous to birds" thing was shocking to discover. I'm normally pretty blase about threats of household chemical pollution, but that was enough to get me to stop using nonstick pans (for anything other than eggs).
I generally like my Le Crueset for stovetop usage, but having to take the little bakelite handle off and stuff the screw-hole with tin foil (not a euphemism!) to make no-knead bread is a pain in the ass. I don't often use my Le Crueset dutch oven in the oven, but last night was doing a casserole; after my experiences…
Cake donuts. Definitely cake donuts. Yeast donuts or glazed donuts are gross and ubiquitous. But a good cake donut? Mmmmm… (This opinion may only be helpful if you're opening a donut truck in my neighborhood, because I don't think my donut-eating behaviors are shared by most of the rest of the country. In that I…
Wait, what? Searching for Bobby Fischer isn't available? That's terrible! What a little gem of a movie. I guess that would explain why I haven't seen it in ages…
@avclub-c255c05246a081654a0267cbb725f5a7:disqus I made that root beer cake from "Baked" and felt it wasn't root beer-y enough. This suggestion to use schnapps is such a good one!
One of the things that surprised me the most when I first started with my CSA was how easy it is to freeze most veggies. Sure, there are really fussy ways to prep shit to freeze it, but for the most part you can just trim, chop, and then freeze a lot of things straight-up. And then it's so nice to have pre-chopped,…
That sucks. I'm so sorry.
Okay, you just blew my mind.
Gaaaaaaaasp! I want to eat that! RIGHT NOW.
Almonds! That sounds really good! And here I am prattling away one comment up about how ashamed I am of using pecans. I should have read further and just acted like it's my genius culinary skillz.
@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus Arugula pesto is so fabulous! As is parsley — when my CSA went parsley crazy last fall I froze up a bunch of lemony parsley pesto, and it's been a nice, bright addition to winter.
