"The scariest part about most documentaries is they start with a conclusion and fill the documentary with information that only supports that conclusion. That is a hallmark of conspiracy thinking. The best docs seem to approach a subject from a neutral perspective and let the facts fall where they may and often times

No, stop comparing documentary film to journalism. Documentaries are closer to art than to a newspaper. Saying a documentary is a factual document is like saying a Rothko is just a couple of squares. It misses the point entirely.

Well yeah, documentary film is not journalism. It's art. If it was just reporting facts and letting you decide, it wouldn't be good.

well, the Constitution isn't a set of laws, it's an affirmation of rights, so I guess we're cool

You haven't heard anyone scoff at the 3rd amendment? Because that one's kind of silly

Well, don't totally give up hope. These things just take some time, and it happens in a trickle.

"auteur", bah. Films are made by a small army of people, many of whom may have never committed rape.

geez, I always assumed Michael wrote all his own stuff. He did "Billie Jean", right?

oh, this is going to turn out to be another one of those things where you all have very specific memories of a thing but it turns out you were all just tuning into static

It really is pretty great. I'm a lifelong atheist, for what that's worth. I also have a very high tolerance for films that are under 80 minutes, though.

that is ridiculous.

Well, we stopped talking about Wicker Man after they made a horrible remake of that, so maybe there's a silver lining here for you

Yeah, sure, I mean he's only the pioneering director of an entire genre…

ARE YOU RUSHING, OR DRAGGING?

That was already used as a Halloween gag by Homestar Runner, and all your friends would've assumed you copied it, so 4chan did you a favor

I'm confident those numbers will fall. He's not going to figure out how to answer foreign policy questions anytime soon…
