He deserves the hype just from Book of Mormon- though you can say that was his peak and I'd be fine with that. Also the young Republicans episode of Party Down is tight.

I've only ever liked 2 trailers. The aforementioned Real Life. And the one for The Ten (https://youtu.be/EO0N2KnYLL8) which mispronounces everyones names for the fuck of it. So what I like in a trailer- is fucking around.

Just saying Lion King 2 dialouge in front of a girl works…. Also what are the chances that was the actual plot of Lion King 2 vs Matt and Trey being like who gives a fuck no ones gonna check?

Shout out to Duke Philips from The Critic for starting a pre-school on a dare and Dougie from Enlightened for his shiny hsirt game. But I'd love to work for Paget Brewster's Jessica from Andy Richter Controls the Universe, she just got his back the whole time and is an obscure enough reference to seem cool.

It was heavy and agenda-fueled, but season 1 is pretty inane (OK Jesus, I'll smoke the crack) and yeah as MO went along subtext became text. But it was still a claymation show with a Sunday School score . I agree they do hit differently but Moral Orel's was more of an open nerve honesty that's closer to Cassavetes..

Eastbound and Down too… Stevie in that last season alone started a charity for 'little black kids' and called George Washington a faggot in front of them and also shot a gun upon his face. High Comedy/Sadness.

for real, to say that Venture Bros undercutting masculinity is influential and to leave Moral Orel out of this article all together is down right criminal… I mean Clay Puppington's sacrifice monologue is the bleakest 3 minutes ever

The best modern example would be Moral Orel. It took the familiarity of the 'Davey and Goliath' wholesome tropes to be more subversive and cynical, and ultimately dropped the joke to just have a third season lacking in 'jokes' but full of bleak realizations about religion being a crutch and happiness doesn't come

This wasn't "It's Garry Shandling's Show" unless Grant lost a lot of weight

from Mr. Show, the flashback during FF Woodycooks… "SHUT THAT BABY UP" - Jill Talley

William Friedkin…. and cause no one else will say it David Wain

They've been closing their shows the past year-plus with Sister Cities. It has that drop out, build up again- which tricks the crowd into thinking the set is over. Probably my favorite part of a Hop Along/any show: the tricking of people

Sarah Silverman had a casual hook up with God on her 'Program'… also the opening credits to Moral Orel… and also Chauncey ate God on Wonder Showzen.

these answers made me not want to read the AV Club anymore

my man Evan and his love for "Naps 101"… it like you replaced Dalmatians with Naps!

Commenting so Neil Casey gets his deserved mention.

Not to steal any Dennis Perkins thunder, but Donald the Falcon was. the. party.

The Heart, She Holler - 'The Endginning'—- nothing like this show has ever happened/might not ever happen again… just talk about it/just interview John and Vernon again

Eastbound & Down - Chapter 24 'the waterpark episode' or Chapter 28 'the penultimate/Christmas episode'
