Did anyone else think it was a strange decision by the leader of the Night's Watch to launch his war beyond the wall at the same time as all the shit is going down elsewhere?

Yeah, what do you think Arya has been up to in hiding while all the shit is going down? She has no allies and isn't super wily, just feisty at a time when feistiness is not enough. Do you think maybe she is hiding in the forest with some wildlings?
