Ghost of Nilsson

Yeah, really, those last two albums are a noisy fucking blast of ideas great and terrible thrown at the wall and worked out in bite-size chunks. Say what you want about Weller's (admittedly) frequently regressive solo career, but his last couple albums have been pretty polarizing and frantic.

Heller's order is right, except for "Setting Sons" switching with "Sound Affects" for me. Man, I gotta listen to that Jam boxed set I've got again….

The first solo album is really good, I always liked it better than "Stanley Road" at very least. It still keeps a lot of the soulful/jazzy influences that carried The Style Council but has some noisy guitar thrown in for good measure, and it's mostly successful. The self-titled has got the highest ratio of Weller

"Dark Magus" is metal as shit. It's demonic funk. It sounds light years ahead of "Bitches Brew" and considering it's basically the tail-end with "Agharta" and "Pangaea" of Miles' crazy loud '70s funk rock period I just can't help but wonder how much further he could've gone had he not burned himself out.

I'm just glad someone mentioned "Get Up With It" and "He Loved Him Madly". Very quiet level of intense for that period of Miles' career.

I heard the mash-up of "Ms. New Booty" vs. "The Safety Dance" too many times, so I don't remember how terrible the original one may have been. So it makes me smile a bit just thinking of it now.

Yeah, well, that's the problem with this job. Ain't got nothin' to do with life.

Yes, but I have a previously established drunk girls thing, so my opinion doesn't count.

She has to be in on the joke. It's just too perfect.

If you can get Goldman Sachs that pissed off at you, you're okay in my book. Are there any other writers working in national magazines that actually tackle stuff like this, anyway? (Really, that's not a taunt, I want to know.) I've always found Taibbi funny and his new book is next on my reading list….

I always feel obligated to pop up whenever Nilsson is mentioned in an article. I've moved this to the top of my Netflix queue…"short wait", you bastards….

"My Father's Gun". Maybe "Amoreena".

"Starry Eyes" and "Let Go" are easy to confuse, if only because they're both absolutely fucking awesome.

I don't think The Records had a song called "Let Go". Dirty Looks (on Stiff!) sure did, though, and it's one of the great lost pop singles.

And all of "Back to Mono". And "Death of a Ladies' Man". And "End of the Century".

Shouldn't we add Sleater-Kinney's "The Woods" to that list? And "One Beat", while we're at it.

@Lincolns Revenge - Well, yeah, that's ordinarily my type. They'd have to be pretty drunk after all.

Eh, I still prefer Koski. At least she can hold her liquor.

I really like "Power". But Kanye's a fucktard who's batting average has been pretty low even on singles lately.

Didn't Martha write "Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole" about dearest daddy?
