I did think a lot of Season 3 wasn't nearly as strong as the 2nd season. Some episodes were exceptional of course, and there were always great jokes here and there, but I felt it was uneven as can be.

I just thought it was a bad example for the thesis of the article. As of course it featured an entire ensemble of characters as a TV show often does, as it was based on a TV show. But yes, much more cinematic.
Or maybe the reason the recent Star Trek felt like a TV show is because it's based on a TV show.
