I tried watching It's A Wonderful Life once.  But it was so depressing I stopped watching right after George crashed his car into a tree and was making his way to a bridge to jump off.  I didn't want to watch the poor guy go through with it so turned it off.  Saddest movie ever.  Don't get the appeal.
