So does this mean that the AV Club will be reviewing each episode?  Please?

Maybe they just achieved what they always wanted?

Opinion will vary, but I'd say it works fairly well. In my opinion it doesn't knock the ball out of the park, but it shows the writers becoming more and more comfortable with  true serialization - which I think ends up being one of the biggest strengths of the series later on. So in terms of being daring enough to try

I saw him a theater production of The Crucible and was actually really impressed with his acting chops. Before that I only thought he was sort of a mediocre actor as well, but given the right material the guy can do a lot with it.

Actually yeah, I could get behind this.  There were a few legitimately enjoyable ones - but they were pretty few and far between. The only reason why I don't think only reviewing selected episodes would work is because one of Zak's big strengths in his writeups is framing how the episode being reviewed fits into the

Is Voyager even being considered?  As much as I love reading these writeups, I can't see how that would be a good idea.  It would just be an endless stream of disappointment, with really no support from commenters about how it's going to get better… because it won't.

I liked Wild at Heart on its own merits but I agree that the ties to Wizard of Oz were a little too in-your-face for my taste.  Strange for Lynch, who is usually so incredibly oblique in terms of his references.

This is inspired.

What needs to happen in order for us to get a Jennifer Lawrence vs. Keira Knightley UFC match?  There aren't nearly enough of those that end in first round knockouts, I'd love a guaranteed one.

At least now they know what they were fighting for.

I notice that there hasn't been any ruling out of prequels.

And hold your breath for when Cassidy Yates shows up!  She's a game-changer!

Seconded on the kudos for the review -  really an excellent, thoughtful piece.  Well done Zack.

I'm still hoping someone can pull off a gritty screen adaptation of The Long Walk.  I think it's in there, and I think it could be really good. It could also be horrible, depending on who got their hands on it.  Is Paul Verhoeven available?

She was superb in Winter's Bone even if I thought the Mystique character in X-Men was a little uneven. I'd say if she gives another great performance in Hunger Games she'll have legit superstar status.

@avclub-92a4841c9f86965effbc29fa6eae9f77:disqus Thanks, that makes sense. I can see how that could end up on the cutting room floor since they were making FC with some mass appeal in mind.  Making a few DS9 junkies happy probably wasn't that high on their list of priorities.

When I read your first sentence I asked myself "When was Odo ever wearing Lwaxana's dress?  This episode took an entirely different direction than I remember."

@avclub-c766c75666111cab4aa6bb75a5424bc0:disqus I also seem to recall them saying that the Defiant was designed to fight the Borg. Which begs the question - why did it get smoked so quickly the first time we ever see it fight the Borg, in First Contact?

@intangible_fancy:disqus I think one thing that differentiates The Wire and other series like BB, Deadwood, etc. from much of the drek that preceded it isn't so much authenticity (as has been stated, how many of us would really know whether what we're watching is a realistic portrayal of Baltimore police or crime

It's not quite the comedic stylings of Dane Cook, but it's certainly not too far off.
