Ethiopium really surprised me. Excellent record, a good gateway from hip-hop into Ethio Jazz also.

It is an excellent album. The second one made me finally admit that they had started to drop the ball though

Still uses his old SP1200.

Episode 5 is a back catalogue of beats from the 90's. Its essential. Beat Konducta in Africa is also very good. Similar vibe to Oh No's Ethiopium

Dint really get into Flying Lotus like a lot of folks did because it seems to me he's stolen too much of his style from Madlib & Dilla. I even wondered for a while if he was another Madlib moniker.

I was pretty disappointed with WLIB AM: King of the Wigflip. The beats were fine but most of the rappers he works with on it are boring.

There was a huge amount of influential rap music released in the late ninetys. Rawkus was killing it back then. Admittedly as soon as the new millenium set in they suffered a painfully fast decline but Funcrusher Plus and Soundbombing (to a lesser extent) changed the game.

Anyone ever hear the Miss Ohio's Nameless album? (Not the Sanddollars EP!) Now there is a slept on Why? gem. I think that was the start of Yoni's experimenting with a full band sound.

I always found Cappadonna pretty annoying. Got bored of the Pillage pretty fast.
Only Built For Cuban Linx was one of my favorite records for a while after it came out but listening to it now I have to say that the length of the skits put me off. Especially if I've got the ipod on shuffle.

Remembering early episodes… Supply plane?!?
All this thinking about the Swan again just reminded me that there were supplies being dropped off from a supply plane back in season 2 or 3. Was it ever explained how this plane could find the island? Presumably the same way the sub does I guess?

To The White Sea!?!?!?!!?
I thought the Coen brothers abandoned this years ago because nobody would trust them with the $90m budget they were looking for?

The thing I like about the whole cLOUDDEAD/Themselves/Subtle/Why?/Doseone/Odd Nosdam super collective is that there are so many variations of basically the same dozen or so people in various different groups and I can basically pull out an album from this collective no matter what mood I'm in. Just look at the…

garmonbosia,
If you like Reaching Quiet you should give the Greenthink Album (Blindfold) a try. Similar cut & paste style, its mostly Why? & Doseone but with loads of the usual Anticon type guests i.e. Odd Nosdam/Jel etc.
