I feel like it was trying to show an exaggerated version of adolescent sexuality more than anything. It's a shame Lauzon passed away so young, he had alot of potential as a filmmaker

The fish narration at the beginning presents the film in the context of a Norse myth

Maelstrom was great! I loved the Norse myth mixed with the body-horror stuff. I'll have to check out Polytechnique as well.

Quebecois cinema discussion time! I just saw Jean-Claude Lauzon's Leolo for the first time and it was magical. Very under-rated film.

Try Me was on constant play this year for me too. I try and get people into this band but to no avail

Thank you for giving me my first real laugh of the day

Fully, Completely is pure Canadian pathos

ER was my first entry into "prestige" television (or television outside The Simpsons) at the ripe old age of 10-12. Followed it every week with my mom until the end and Abby was huge for me. Just watching the character grow over the years taught me alot. She is synonymous with that character for me

I agree with you but Hey Nostradamus! should be thrown in there too

Savage Detectives is great. Like "On The Road" great

The Amalfitano part seemed unnecessary to me at the time but once I finished the book, it was the section that probably haunted me the most.

Speeding through "Motherless Brooklyn". The narrator is so damn likeable and that first chapter was a hum-dinger. This is my first Lethem and so far I love it.

tell me MORE

From what I've read, Visit From the Goon Squad never really took off. It would have been great

It kind of, sort of, starts out like that. Then they flesh out Walton Goggins and it reaches great heights in the second season. More of a Southern Gothic show than Deadwood's Western show

the night is dark and full of bullshit

He is Jane Sterling's cousin yo!

I can't find that shit anywhere! Tempted to get it off Amazon

Finished Joan Didion's Slouching Towards Bethlehem. Amazing book of early essays. I really enjoyed the essay in which the book takes its title. It showed how genuinely fucked up the Haight-Ashbury scene in the 60's was while not diminishing the romance of it all. Really great stuff

Picture a 3 part LOTR style epic, shot on location, Ben Affleck directing and starring as Stu Redman. Super saturated 70's feel a la Argo. Fuck it, lets make it set in 1978. Post-apocalyptic Carter era goodness.
