Hey I'm with you on loving Pantera and Superchunk! Although I probably prefer the first Down record to anything Pantera's done, they're still an amazing band that were a great gateway it into tons of metal bands when I first got into them as a kid.

Its pretty amazing just how hard they roared back to life with Majesty Shredding and then followed it up with an equally fantastic record. And they absolutely kill it live, its pretty shocking to think that Mac is in his 40s the way he goes at it.
I'd never realised it until I saw this review, but despite being a massive Superchunk fan, I've never actually listened to this record. I've gotta change that immediately, their reissue project has been fantastic so far.
Skyfall and Dark Knight Rises are two movies that are absolutely complete messes with pretty poor scripts that I nonetheless enjoyed very much. Mostly, I think, because they cost on "movie cool" moments really well. Does it make any sense that Javier Bardem drops a train out of nowhere at James Bond, or that he goes…
Spraynard was a great band, I'm really glad they're getting together for at least one (hopefully more) shows. I love how much modern emo music is getting covered by David Anthony on the here these days.
Baggage! Seriously that show is a sleazy masterpiece, its a great show to get drunk to.
Apples and oranges. The Weakerthans are as close as I can come to naming a favorite band of all time, but Propagandhi's been on a pretty incredible hot streak for the past decade plus and the two bands are just fundamentally different.
"For supah I would like a pahty plahtah!"
I had no idea that the creators of Clone High were behind this until I read this review. I also didn't know they were behind 21 Jump Street, which helps explain why it was so surprisingly good.
As someone who grew up with mostly branded, specialised Lego kits (I'm 22, so when I started playing with Legos the Star Wars Lego craze had just started to take off,) I used to love building an X Wing or Tie Fighter and then taking it apart to make up my own Star Wars style ships or anything else. I don't think the…
Casting Will Arnett as Batman so he can do his Job/Devon Banks growly "chicken fingers…with spicy club sauce" voice as a Christian Bale style Batman voice is just genius casting.
Mark Linkous is probably the worst one in that regard for me, especially because I had the very dark thought that after Vic Chesnutt killed himself Linkous would go next, and then two months later he did.
Me too, I got excited when I saw the headline for this article, but I'm pretty bummed to find out it looks like a really generic action movie.
If you dig 90s Built to Spill, you'll love Fat History Month. They're also from Boston and put a fresh spin on that Built to Spill/Modest Mouse guitar style. Great lyrics too. http://fathistorymonth.band…
Although this far from a general consensus, Pootie Tang is definitely much loved by myself and a lot of friends of mine. I quote that movie all the time.
Honestly I get that this sucks, and I like NIN is a lot, but what was expecting? He chose to perform at the Grammies knowing full well how shitty they are, I feel like he can't get that self righteous about what happened.
I think its like D'Angelo says in the article though, Lloyd is such a great, cool character precisely because he's not some kind of Fonze too cool for school dude. He's the kind of guy who'll stay sober all night at a rager to protect everyones keys and stop them from drunk driving, and is completely unabashed in his…
Does Stella not hold the same kind reverence that a lot of other brilliant, canceled too soon TV shows hold? Maybe its just because I hang out with a lot of comedy nerds but I always thought it had a really strong following.
Seeing the pilot for the first time when I was in high school was definitely one of the hardest times I've ever laughed. Everything from the opening funk rock argument to Michael Ian Black handing the laundromat slip with the key in it to "This is my husband, Edward Norton" makes me giggle just thinking about it. And…
@avclub-d69768b3da745b77e82cdbddcc8bac98:disqus, Cap'n Jazz and Sunny Day are both still huge touchstones. Bands like Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) and The World Is… are some of the bigger examples of bands carrying on/reinventing the Sunny Day style of emo, while as Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing (both have…
