I think the Civil War is the most important thing to occur in U.S. history bar none, and it's not even close.  I've been mildly interested in it for close to 20 years, pretty conversant in it, and I've just found really important lessons in the last two years.  It keeps giving back.

The Pittsburgh Pirates did a similar thing in building my fandom from 1990-1992 and then "crashed" with 15 losing seasons. Hereby discouraging me from ever "taking flight" with them as a fan again.
