…and then shared it on the Internet.

It's like any given moment that Kathy Griffin is on an E! special—but it's here on the AV Club!  Yay!

Agreed.  There's nothing really constructive here, just a section-long rant.  And it's not like he's some expert in the area of discussion or anything; he even says he doesn't know that much about music in the column.  Why are we asking him about a song he hates?  I might as well tell you about my least favorite

Some lines that may well be from this movie:

Why would anyone spend any money at all to watch this?  There might be laughs of the entirely-predictable variety, but there's already a stream of pleasant, unassuming comedies perpetually available to watch: "Dodgeball" was on again just last night.

I'm not a male porn star, but if I were, I'd use the name "Rodimus Prime" from Transformers: The Animated Movie as my nomme d'amour.  This seemed like a good time to share that for some reason.

I think she's a great writer, too.  But somehow, she's also becoming every single thing I hate about NYC, wrapped up in a single brand.  This story is actually pretty consistent with that.

We seem to be headed in the direction of *everyone* making hilariously tone-deaf Kickstarters that fail spectacularly.  Who's next, Dennis Rodman?

Nick, I've tried everything: the embassy, the German government, the consulate.  I even talked to the U.N. ambassador.  It's no use, I just can't bring my wife to orgasm.

Hmm.  You didn't use words like "mercenary" and  "contempt" when you were describing pretentiousness, but in my mind contempt, especially, is central to the concept.  If the artist in question is looking down on the squares who don't get it, even if - especially if - he or she is afraid of being one of the squares,

The point made below about Frank Sinatra is relevant, but I think there's another problem at work here: we seem to have lost the ability to look away from things that we find repellent.  (I blame reality TV, but whatever.) The way Chris Brown gets "punished" isn't by us all tut-tutting him, it's by us *ignoring*

I can't go as far as "seen more than any other film made this century" (or anywhere near that level of enthusiasm,) but I do like this movie.  I didn't enjoy the visual style (which I found distracting to the point of grating) so much as the mentioned sense of dread—and the diamond-hard toughness of the characters

"Sure, Fatbot, I'll teach you how to be cool."

Couldn't have said it better myself.  I was a fierce defender of this movie when it came out, and it remains my favorite of his.

I really, seriously thought that the whole world is all barbaric outside the town walls there.  I thought I got that from the pilot, but maybe not.  I haven't seen Terra Nova, so it wasn't that.

The perviness of that scene didn't really work for me.  It wasn't *just* diapers, pain, food or bondage, it was all of them.  I'm not really sure what else they could've thrown into the mix.  Maybe animals?

I found the opening scene distracting to the point of not being sure the show had started.  We're in an alien-wild-west town, where the outside world is so dangerous that until very recently they'd had a big stupid energy gate installed—and we have a man in sweats, shiny sneakers and and iPod doing a fun run?!?  The

That surprised me to read, because I see it as a logical continuum: the smug became the self-serious.  One of the worst things about modern-day Mopey John is that now I see him in those earlier roles, lurking under the surface of characters in movies I love.  His angst in Gross Pointe Blank and his despair in Better

My biggest concern for this show is actually Grant Bowler.  He's got one shtick that he does well: being a grizzled veteran.  Two episodes in, though, I'm starting to want a bit more variety from the guy.  Last week's review said he was no Nathan Fillion, and I'm starting to feel that lack of texture to his

Because Spike Lee hasn't been this visible in a long, lo-o-o-o-ong time.  Isn't a central issue here that the man is making money hand over fist?  There's tons of marginal indie film makers out there that nobody talks about, right?
