I'd be less critical of Detox's look this week if (and I can't believe I'm saying this) Phi Phi hadn't brought a lot more polish to her full body paint look.

You're right, it was probably hard to spot the details. I feel like Detox gets away with that A LOT. Her looks make a huge first impression; she really understands drama. But on closer inspection they kind of fall apart. Especially considering she was basically wearing a Halloween store Leeloo costume.

Phi Phi is understandably scared that, if the queens aren't following the "rules," she'll be voted out the second there's a clear opportunity. The other queens tolerate her and her unsubtle sabotage tactics, but I don't think any of them would be gutted if she left.

Yea, there's no way to spin Princess Di into an irreverent music comedy routine. Katya did better than I expected, honestly. But yeah, broken marriage, depression, divorce, death. Let's have Lucian whip up a frothy little number about it!

Detox in general leaves me cold. Last week's latex look was alright, but the weird latex head wrap had a lot of the same issues that this week's silver bald cap did–namely it looked kind of wrinkled and sloppy. Now, fair enough, the queens don't really have the time to endlessly process and perfect their looks before

Alyssa's decision is going to throw the remaining queens into total chaos, but I don't care because a.) that's going to be phenomenal TV and b.) she saved Katya. There's not much that would make me consider stopping watching this season, but an early exit for Katya (or Alaska) would really give me pause.

We got a taste of what Tammy would have done with Snatch Game when Ru had them do Gaff In on All-Stars 1. Like always, Tammy took one look at the challenge, decided that it wasn't the sort of drag that she does, and did a half-assed job. I mean, it's totally fine if your drag is singing songs that make people laugh

I give Phi Phi a little credit for coming up with a coherent bit, even if it was basically scripted. It's more intelligent than I usually give her credit for.

That was some Hellfire Club realness she was serving.

The voice is easy, but doing the voice and being that sharp and quick with the comebacks, interacting with the other queens in character, and being hilarious is hard.

I've always really loved that Adore doesn't do the same thing as most of the other queens. She's different, she's not going to show up to an event in a gown. And that's great, because the drag world needs variety. What's interesting about Adore is that, for the most part, there's just not that much difference in style

I kind of agree but I also kind of disagree. On one hand the big cities are probably much more accepting of really different styles of drag, mirroring how larger metropolitan areas are more open to all different kinds of art. But on the other hand, Drag Race has become such a de rigueur part of the drag scene and

I completely agree. I feel like the queens only lip syncing to songs by female artists is a holdover from the days when drag was primarily about female and celebrity impersonation. So many of the queens nowadays seem totally disinterested in presenting the illusion of a biological woman and more about messing around

I mean, like Ru always says, it's her show. She's done so much to advance drag as a business, and an art form, that I'll forgive her pretty much anything. But yeah, she does stick to one, Glamazonian, look. The first two seasons she named winners that were, visually at least, very much in her own style.

I actually really dug the Telenovela acting challenge from S5, which was awesome because Jinx tore it up and Alyssa couldn't locate a normal accent. I remember Alaska being pretty great in that one as well. Actually the worst actor in the whole group was guest Wilmer Valderrama.

So many team challenges. It was so hard to get a read on the individual queen's personalities because they were basically getting half the change to express themselves.

Drag Race is a reflection of Ru's drag aesthetic. And Ru is a lot of things, but she's not a plus-size queen. The show is far too focused on fashion and look to really ever be truly welcoming to a queen who doesn't have a sample-size body. I mean, there's a reason why the plus-size queens always seem to have the most

Alaska's stuff is actually fun, because no matter how annoying the music might be, she knows exactly when to puncture it with her sense of humor.

You're right about Ginger in S7. I do find that the plus-size queens often have the same problem, which is that whatever self-esteem issues they have about their body-type tends to be expressed in a bad attitude. See: Delta Work. A great counterexample is Latrice, who seems completely comfortable in her own skin, and

Adore is definitely the only queen that's really got a chance of being successful in the music business. She's got a good voice, and she's actually co-writing the songs.
