saw this over the summer - I definitely agree that the symbolic, mirror/naked guy bits don't work, but what's remarkable for me is quite how deep the sense of immersion is through the rest of it. The sequence with the women picking out iron ore by hand at night still lingers in the mind…

I wonder whether some of the context of the film doesn't travel that well; European press of all stripes has been draped in the assumption/fevered warning that incoming migrants (who are all members of ISIS or opportunists who just want to claim benefits, naturally) are overrunning every piece of land they arrive on -
