I hate it when shows make meta jokes about their own declining quality.
"Hey guys, we're not as good as we used to be, but we know we aren't and we've made a joke about it, so it's okay!"
The only time a joke like that has been done right is South Park's "You're Getting Old"

"Strange that the House of Groening couldn’t get Katey Sagal to voice Peg Bundy for the Married…With Children gag"

One Piece is my favourite show of all time, so I almost couldn't believe my eyes when Homer walked in dressed as Zoro. Lisa dressed as Misaka was even more surprising. I remember a couch gag when the Simpsons were anime characters (Lisa was Sailor Moon, ect.) and Maggie was the only one who was the same character from

This felt more like old South Park, with more emphasis on weirdness and the comedy than on social commentary. There were even a few Family Guy-ish moments, like the whole thing with Matthew McConaughey, not that that's a bad thing. But for some reason, my favourite bit was all the adults freaking out over Wacky Races

"You actually read this? It was written by two lawyers who had to keep waking each other up!"

I wouldn't even consider Hyman a minor character. Hasn't he only been in something like 2 or 3 episodes prior to this? They hyped this death up more than they did for Homer's own mother back in season 19, and all in an attempt to draw attention back to the show. The episode itself was okay, but it was so needlessly
