I saw an early screening of this a couple weeks ago, and James Nguyen did a Q&A afterwards, which quelled all my fears about the movie being in any way self-aware.

I insist on pronouncing it by stomping my foot, doing jazz hands and smiling.

How I read it: "Pitchfork's target demographic is young people who listen to retro-influenced music and thus try to approximate the taste of old people. But the website itself is written by old people trying to approximate the taste of those young people."
