I remember the steam version getting an ok framerate, it's just one of those games with no margin for error.

They do, actually! You can even jank it into running an updated source port with modern controls and everything.

I think to be fair, a lot of older games were also trying to stretch a limited amount of content, and when arcades were a thing games could be hard just to milk you. Hardness was often out of necessity as much as it was out of design philosophy.

Fuck, I was playing this on Steam just the other day and rediscovering how HARD it is. Like not even fun hard. There's something really charming about it, though.

I think it's really great on its own merits, but it's definitely one of those ones that's easy to get overexposed to with all the shitty covers floating around.

I always put on Bridge Over Troubled Water for the title track and then turn it off before the rest of the album. It's such a big emotional climax, I just feel done already after the one song.
