I sweae I saw a Howard Johnson's close to my house recently, it was like seeing a ghost! I had no idea there were any left. I don't think they still do the restaurant portion, it's just a motel.

I KNOW, I'M HORRIBLE. MAKING YOU EAT ICE CREAM.
I was introduced to this film and Boards of Canada simultaneously when someone made a youtube video playing "Julie and Candy" over the opening scene. Both great finds!
It feels kind of like they had no intention of talking about it but were afraid that if they didn't at least briefly mention it that they'd seem "out of the loop" or something
Don't you mean it's a glower? HAH HAH HAH HAHohjesusgod
It seems kind of cheap to mention the rape allegation that briefly; I think it's worthy of note too, but don't bring it up randomly and then not engage with it at all.
The fact that a respected character actor with big, prestige movies under their belt would take a part like Steve Brule and really engage with it and take it seriously just makes me so happy. Bless John C. Reilly.
Digging into his solo stuff is a HUGE to-do item for me that I haven't gotten to yet. Having just read "Trouble Boys" I'm even more interested now in seeing how his solo albums fit into the story.
If ya gonna gramble, play the game where ya win every time, ya drungus! *walks towards change machine*
There's a whole segment on one of his earlier albums where he destroys a religious fundamentalist on morning radio, so I never pegged him as a religious nut. I think most of the criticism against him is "guilty by association" rather than any particularly partisan thing he's done or said.
I think the best defense you could give for his going clean is that I heard his earlier, swearier stuff first and by the time he went clean later on I honestly didn't even notice. Profanity really just didn't make a huge difference in his material.
I think I get what he means though; when "blue" comics were more taboo, clean comics were considered less of an anomaly and probably weren't so often labeled as such. I feel like that'd be closer to the 60s/70s, though, not Seinfeld-era.
We can't take you anywhere!
Paul Westerberg's lyrics. Don't listen to the 'Mats when you've spent a long time on the road, you WILL cry.
There are Ted talks that are really good, but often it seems like they'll let any asshole
go on there and talk complete horseshit as long as they have a book.
Damn, uh ok
The "Nox" dub of that movie from ye-olde internet days was very formative for Young Howdy.
Yeah, his dad only died of cancer and he only had to go through a big cancer scare with his wife only to find that the high-profile project he was probably stressing over for months of his life is a critical disaster.
I always had the understanding that the motormouth delivery in Far Cry 2 was intentional; every single character in that game was a crooked grifter and the vocal delivery was part of the world-building in that way.
Or if every character was played by Sam Rockwell.
