So you're from the SW suburbs too? I should have known re: the camaro. I lived about 3 miles from there. I remember the guy I knew who loved his Monte Carlo far too much than was reasonable.
It's cuz they're all vets. I think there is something inherently good about intense physical labor in your late teens/early twenties. If you get into top shape then, you can ride that a long way. Oh, and plenty of em died along the way, you just don't hear about the dead codgers.
I would like to say that the James Brown scene alone in that movie provided me with a lifetime interest in gospel music. You can't hate on that.

Yeah, music from that era reminds me of my grandmother, who would listen to white-person oldies from the big band era on WJJD AM station in Chicago. I now realize she was listening to "oldies" from her youth. Although when I was six it just sounded boring.

Re: Lewis — I agree with you that his most recent work is not the best researched, but I thought Liar's Poker was an absolutely great work and cut to the wick of finance in the '80's.
